The North Shore clinic (Townsville) is one of the larger clinics in the Tropical Vets group, and is overseen by Tropical Vets Director Dr. Shannen Gordon
The North Shore team is professionally versatile and team focused group.
The Team
Shannen grew up on a beef cattle property in Bowen and wanted to be a vet since she was a little girl.
Graduating from JCU in 2016 she began her career in a small clinic in Bowen. After a couple of years, she moved back to Townsville to join the North Shore team.
Shannen has a keen interest in building her skills as a mixed practice vet and enjoys the variety that mixed practice brings, however she also enjoys small animal surgery. In her spare time, she is usually at home helping her parents on the property or spending time with her husband, 3 dogs (Salisbury, Lolly and Minty) and 1 cat (Lily).
Dr Erin relocated from Canberra to Townsville to pursue her Veterinary studies at JCU, graduating in 2021. Enjoying the tropical weather, she decided to call Townsville home, and joined the Tropical Vets North Shore team.
Erin enjoys working with animals of all kinds, including wildlife and unusual pets.
Outside of work Erin likes to help out at church, hang out with her cats and dog Tippy (pictured), tend to her worm farm, and stay up late drinking tea and crocheting.
Originally growing up in Ipswich, Jake always had a passion for animals and wanted to pursue being a veterinarian. He began chasing his dream with an undergraduate degree through UQ, before making his way up north, where he went on to complete his Bachelor of Veterinary Science at James Cook University. During his time at JCU, he found his passion for animal reproductive work. Although this interest is wide ranging, from small animals to large production animals, his preference is working with cattle.
The move to north Queensland came easy for Jake, he was already an NQ Cowboys fan and whenever there is a home game you'll be sure to find him there! Outside of work, Jake spends most of his time relaxing at home with his partner and 3 dogs and smoking up some meat for a big feed.
Jessie grew up in a small beach community outside of Gladstone. She was fortunate enough to grow alongside an abundant variety of animals, and as a result, fell in love with all aspects of veterinary medicine from a young age.
Jessie has a strong interest in ultrasonography, soft tissue surgery and clinical pathology, and is kept busy at home by 2 naughty cats and countless fish. Outside of the clinic, Jessie loves to cook, go swimming, fishing and camping.
Ever since Rhianna was a little girl, she was adamant she was going to become a vet, with plenty of different pets whilst growing up she knew her future was set to include life's furry creatures.
Rhianna hails from a small town just outside of Rockhampton but spent her university years in Townsville. Since graduating in 2016 she has worked as a small animal veterinarian in both small and mixed clinics in Rockhampton and Mackay, but in 2022 made the move back to Tropical Townsville with her little family. Rhianna particularly enjoys soft tissue surgery and small animal medicine.
Rhianna enjoys spending her time outside the clinic with her husband, 3 young children, 2 dogs (Lilo and Aladdin) and cat (Stitch) who all keep her quite busy!
Tori started her career in the Whitsundays as a mixed practice vet and now is a part of our team at North Shore.
Tori has a keen interest in equine medicine and small animal surgery.
When she’s not at work you will find her fishing on the reef or immersed in a book.

More about the area
Townsville is a thriving region strongly grounded in both the defence and university (JCU) sectors. If you are someone who enjoys the outdoors and exercise, there is plenty to do in and around the city including Magnetic Island, Castle Hill , Mount Louisa, The Strand, Town Common, local zoo, museum and aquarium, Mount Stuart, Hervey Range and Paluma Ranges. Although there's too much to list, Townsville definitely has a lot to offer.
